Body Conditioning

Course disclosure in English and Spanish

The program is designed for the student to make gains in both strength and
cardio vascular training. Students are allowed to set fitness goals and customize their weight training program to fit their specific needs. Core strength is also a daily focus of this class. Students will be able to get out what they are willing to put in during their workout. If a student is not able to have fitness goals they may best be served to do a different physical education class as self-motivation is needed for improvement. Some of the activities that are done in this class are: Abs, jump rope, running, agility ladders, weight training, Insanity and Zumba.

Health Education/Participation Skills 9 

This course assists students in the continual development of skills to improve their quality of life. It offers students the opportunity to evaluate health practices, products, and services.  It also offers students the opportunity to develop skills, knowledge, and techniques in a variety of individual and team sports. Emphasis is placed on sportsmanship, participation, and leadership.

Healthy Lifestyles

This course assists students in the continual development of skills to improve the quality of life. It offers students the opportunity to evaluate health practices, products and services. It also provides students with the opportunity to develop skills, knowledge, and techniques in a variety of individual and team sports and rhythmic activities. Emphasis is placed on leadership and sportsmanship. Also this course assists students in accessing their own fitness level and in developing and implementing personal fitness plans to improve their level of physical fitness. Emphasis is placed on the components of fitness, proper, nutrition, and stress management.

Physical Activity

Course disclosure in English and Spanish

In physical education, students will:
  • Demonstrate understanding of movement, fitness and nutrition concepts, principles, and strategies.
  • Explain training principles and how they impact physical fitness.
  • Understand the relationship between proper nutrition and personal health and fitness.
  • Participating regularly in physical activity.
  • Achieve and maintain a health-enhancing level of physical fitness.
  • Exhibit responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and others in physical activity settings.
  • Value physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and/or social interaction.
  • Demonstrate competency in motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities. 
Additionally, students will learn team building skills and communication techniques as they develop skills and knowledge necessary to live a Healthy Lifestyle. SLCSE is fortunate to have our own Bike Shop & Mtn. Bicycles, Climbing Gym.

Advanced Participation Skills                                                                  

This class combines Physical Education and Health requirements into one class throughout the year. Advanced participation skills will combine Individualized Lifetime Activities; Climbing, Bicycling, and Paddling with an engaging Health Curriculum that follows the State Health Core.

Lifetime Activities or Sport                                                       

In this course students acquire skills and knowledge in a variety of lifetime activities, including camping, bicycling, kayaking,  and climbing that will contribute to sustained fitness.
